Meera tried every diet rule she could find. "I know what to eat," she said. "I just can't make myself do it." Here is what nobody told her. Willpower is the wrong tool for food. When you eat by rules held in your head, you are fighting your own body. You skip. You crave. You cave. Then comes the guilt, then the binge, then a stricter rule. And the cycle tightens. Ayurveda never asked you to control food with the mind. It asked you to restore agni, your digestive fire. Strong agni sends a clear signal. Real hunger. Weak agni sends noise. Boredom, stress, habit. Most cravings are not hunger. They are a confused fire and a restless mind, arriving together and sounding like appetite. So stop arguing with food in your head. Start listening to your stomach.
Three conditions. Not one of them is a calorie. Before your next meal, pause and ask one thing. Is this hunger, or am I unsettled? If it is hunger, eat properly. Warm, cooked, unhurried. If it is restlessness, notice that food was never going to fix it. Then eat anyway if you are due a meal, because skipping meals is how the fire got confused in the first place. The goal is not eating less. It is eating when your body actually asks. Puneet |
