Tongue Scraping Is Not Ayurveda: What Charaka Actually Defined

Pankaj messaged me last week.

"I'm doing Ayurveda now. Oil pulling, tongue scraping, dry brushing. Every morning."

I asked one thing.

"How do you sleep?"

Silence.

That is the trap. We have turned a science of living into a morning checklist.

Ayurveda means the science of life. Not the science of trending hacks.

Tongue scraping is fine. It is no more Ayurveda than one brick is a house.

Done properly, Ayurveda is not a cage. It does not shrink your day into rules you dread. It expands how you live.

It asks how you sleep, eat, rest and work. Then it adjusts, gently, for you.

The ritual is the doorway. How you live is the room.

"Hitahitam sukham duhkham ayus tasya hitahitam, manam cha tach cha yatroktam ayurvedah sa uchyate"

Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana 1.41

What helps and harms life, and what life itself is. That is Ayurveda.

Read that again. Not one word about a copper scraper.

Drop one hack today. Ask instead whether you are asleep before ten.

That single question outranks every tool you have bought.
