Asha messaged me in a panic last week. "My LPG cylinder ran out, so now I cook on induction. Am I ruining my Agni?" Almost everyone gets this wrong. Agni is not the flame under your pan. In Ayurveda, Agni means transformation. Every process that turns one thing into another is Agni. The enzymes that break down your lunch. The chaat masala that helps a fruit digest. Even the mind turning what you see into memory. That is your Agni. So whether your food meets wood, gas or induction, your stomach does not care. It asks one thing only. Was the food cooked properly? A half-raw dal on a sacred wood fire is still half-raw. A well-cooked khichdi on induction is still well-cooked. The heat source was never the point. The transformation always was. Charaka teaches that it is the body's own fire, not the kitchen fire, that truly cooks our food. That is the whole doctrine, and it makes the stove argument irrelevant. So stop blaming your stove. Cook the food fully, eat it warm, and let the fire inside you do the rest. The anxiety about your kitchen is doing more damage than your kitchen is. Puneet |
